Kind Kinders
1
Description
Kind Kinders (Restart) is a refreshed version of our long-standing social group — now
redesigned for a new cohort of children just beginning to learn the core social-emotional skills
expected in late preschool and early kindergarten.
This group is not a continuation of the previous Kind Kinders. Instead, it begins from the very
start, building foundational skills like:
-
Understanding personal space
-
Recognizing and responding to others’ emotions
-
Learning to stop when someone says “no” or looks uncomfortable
-
Asking for help politely
-
Listening and participating in a group
Children will explore these concepts through a unique combination of puppet-based lessons,
video modeling, guided role-play, and play-based real-life application. There is minimal
table time — instead, we focus on movement, interaction, and joyful learning through play.

2 Routines
Kind Kinders follows a consistent, school-like schedule with lunch in the middle — just like a
real classroom:
11:45 – 12:00 | Arrival & Warm-Up Play
Children ease into the group with sensory or pretend play zones
12:00 – 12:15 | Puppet Lesson or Social Skills Video
Engaging story-based teaching about the weekly social concept
12:15 – 12:30 | Guided Role-Play Practice
Kids practice phrases and behaviors using props or puppets
12:30 – 12:45 | Lunch Time
Eating together, sharing conversation, and using mealtime manners
12:45 – 1:15 | Structured Group Play
Games and scenarios designed to apply the targeted skill of the day (e.g. “personal space
tag,” “emotion charades,” “listening games”)
1:15 – 1:30 | Semi-Structured or Free Play
Children use the skill in natural peer interactions with light facilitation
1:30 – 1:45 | Group Reflection & Goodbye
Simple sharing of “what we learned,” encouragement, and wrap-up routine
[Example Activities]
Kind Kinders uses rich, play-based methods to help children truly experience and practice each
social concept:
-
Puppet theatre – modeling how to handle situations like “someone took my toy” or “I
don’t want a hug” -
Emotion charades – guessing how a puppet or friend is feeling based on facial cue
-
Personal space bubble games – respecting boundaries through active movement
-
“Stop and Go” role-play – practicing how to stop when someone says n
-
Listening games – freeze dance with group instructions, or “Simon Says” with social
twists -
Turn-taking board games – learning patience and fairness through fun
-
Helping station – acting out how to offer or ask for help with simple classroom tasks
The goal is not perfection — it’s real-life readiness, practiced joyfully and repeatedly in a setting
where kids feel safe to make mistakes and try again.
✅ Is This the Right Group for Your Child?
Q: My child attended the previous Kind Kinders group. Should they join again?
A: Only if they need to revisit the basics. This new version starts from the beginning and is
better suited for children who joined late last term, or who are still developing foundational
social skills. Returning children who mastered the prior curriculum may find the content too
simple.
Q: My child is shy and still learning how to play with others. Will they fit in?
A: Yes. Kind Kinders is designed for children who are still developing comfort in social settings.
The group emphasizes gentle exposure, modeling, and repetition — with lots of emotional
support.
Q: My child has strong verbal skills but still struggles with personal space or empathy. Is
this group appropriate?
A: Absolutely. Social development isn’t just about words — it’s about knowing how to use those
words appropriately in group settings. Kind Kinders helps bridge that gap through real practice.
Q: What kind of child is this group best for?
A: This group is ideal for children who:
-
Are 4 to 6 years old
-
Need support learning how to play with others, not just near them
-
Are learning skills like sharing space, understanding feelings, listening, and stopping when being told
-
Would benefit from structured social practice, not just free play
-
May struggle to generalize skills in large or unstructured environments
